Dr. Kelly Gabel

D.O.

General Surgery

Kelly Gabel, DO, FACOS, FACS is a Board Certified general surgeon with roots in western Kansas. Dr. Gabel was born and raised in Northwest Kansas and growing up in a small town allowed him to build deep relationships with those in his community. He saw first-hand both the needs and lack of resources of those in rural communities. He acquired his first taste of rural medicine as an EMT in both Cheyenne and Ellis counties. This inspired him onto his journey to become a rural physician. Dr. Gabel graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. He met his wife, also a physician, in the chemistry department.

They both attended Kansas City University, graduating with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) in 2008. Dr. Gabel then received his training in general surgery at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Knowing he was going to a rural area early on allowed him to tailor his training to a broad range of procedures. He received additional training in advanced laparoscopic surgery, gynecological oncology, trauma, colon and rectal, advanced endoscopy, foregut, thyroid/parathyroid, pediatric, urological and breast surgery. Dr. Gabel spent his first 10 years of practice in Colby, Kansas where he honed his skills in rural surgical care. With additional training in wound care and GERD, Dr. Gabel offers a broad skill set and knowledge base that is perfect for a community like Minneola.

When not doing surgery, you can usually find Dr. Gabel with his wife and four children. His wife is a family physician in Colby. He is involved in his church and community. Dr. Gabel also spends time in West Africa providing surgical services in villages in Togo. His family loves the outdoors and often visit more than one national park every year. He is an instrument rated private pilot and enjoys flying when the weather allows.
