At Minneola Healthcare, over 50 employees have received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on December 17th and 18th. This is a huge milestone in the long journey ahead to healing this nation of this deadly illness.
“I was glad to receive the vaccine as it allows us to finally begin getting ahead of this virus. Vaccination is one of the main weapons we have against illnesses, especially viral illnesses. I would much rather prevent a disease than try to treat it, as prevention is easier and cost effective. I am happy to take the vaccine and let others watch for any side effects and hopefully allow them to gain trust in the vaccine as one of the main weapons we have in lowering the rate of COVID infections.” said Dr. Shawn Conard, one of the first people to receive the vaccine here at Minneola Healthcare.
Kara Dugan, MHC’s Vaccine Coordinator, felt that this was the right action to take against the novel coronavirus as her and others, like Dr. Franchesca Schandevel, have little ones at home that they are wanting to protect. Dr. Franchesca Schandevel states that the COVID vaccine is 95% effective. “Multiple organizations including the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommend that the vaccine not be withheld from pregnant or breastfeeding women. In fact, I am currently breastfeeding. I am happy to answer any questions/concerns about these topics.”
